The treatment of malaria gets a new champion in singer-actress Katharine McPhee
What: Malaria No More’s Power of One campaign
Why: McPhee was inspired by a friend to help fund a preschool in Africa. After making a connection with the school’s headmaster and hearing of recurrent bouts with malaria among students and teachers, she decided to “continue to help” defeat this treatable disease by joining up with Malaria No More. “One dollar, one life, it’s so simple,” she says . “We’re hoping we can create a malaria-free zone.”
When: April 25 is World Malaria Day, an occasion to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control. It’s also an opportunity for new donors to join the global malaria partnership, and for research and academic institutions to showcase their scientific work.
How: Every dollar donated to the Power of One campaign will fund a lifesaving test and treatment for a child with malaria. Go to Po1.org to donate a dollar.
