Last week it was announced that Katharine McPhee would star in the Broadway musical Waitress, and today PEOPLE has the first official look at Katharine in costume.

“I’ve waited a long time to do Broadway mostly because I wanted it to be a show that I connected to,” Katharine told PEOPLE. “I felt Waitress was just that: really well-suited for me.”

Katharine is a big fan of Sara Bareilles, who wrote the music for the show.

“Being a fan of Sara for all of these years, I always hoped she’d write a musical,” Katharine said. “And now to be starring in her show that she wrote music and lyrics to is a total dream.”

Katharine makes her Broadway debut on April 10th and will star in Waitress all spring, through June 17th.
